FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the time commitment for swimmers?

  • Swim team is what each swimmer makes it! Two practices are offered many days to accommodate summer camp schedules; swimmers only need to attend one practice. If swimmers want to participate in meets, parents need to RSVP via Swimtopia by the required deadlines. If swimmers have not submitted an RSVP by the deadline, they are not eligible to swim in the meet.

What is the time commitment for parents?

  • Many hands make light work. Swim team cannot exist without the help and enthusiasm of each and every swim team family. Each family is expected to volunteer at least two times during the swim season, and families who do not meet this volunteer requirement will be invoiced $75 at the end of the season. Invoices must be paid in order to register your child for future Barracuda swim seasons. There are many ways to help, and volunteer job descriptions and sign ups can be found on Swimtopia.

What is ASA?

  • ASA stands for the Atlanta Swim Association. Barracudas Swim Team is part of this league and follows rules and regulations determined by the league. Find more information on their website: https://asa.swimtopia.com/

My children practice at different times, can I just bring them all to the same one?

  • No. Please attend a practice that matches your child’s age group to ensure that coaches and swimmers get the most out of each session.

Who is grandfathered in from SCC?

  • To respect the history of our alumni swimmers, both the BWBC and SCC Boards have met and agreed upon a “legacy rule” for Barracuda alumni. The “legacy rule” will allow select Barracuda alumni swimmers to remain on the BWBC Barracudas teamif they choose toand meet the legacy rule qualifications. The qualifications are: SCC pool members who are 11 years of age or older on May 31st, 2026, AND have at least 4 years of history swimming with the Barracudas. If one swimmer in your family meets these qualifications, siblings are also allowed to join, allowing your family to be part of one swim team.

Do I have to purchase a team suit and team spirit wear?

  • All gear is optional but encouraged. Shirts and caps for all competitive swimmers are included with the registration fee. Team suits and gear can be purchased through SwimTopia. If you do not purchase a team suit, a one piece black and red suit is required for girls and briefs or jammers are required for boys (no swim trunks).

What is Barracuda Buddies?

  • The morning after each meet, no regular practice is held. Instead, all swimmers are invited to BWBC from 10-11am for fun, games, and donuts! This is also a chance for your swimmer to pick up any ribbons they earned at the meet. Ribbons can be found in the pavilion, filed in large plastic file tubs and sorted by family last name.

What are Stroke Clinics?

  • Stroke Clinics are optional, pay-to-attend practices that are dedicated to working on a specific swimming skill. You may sign your swimmer(s) up for as many or as few as you would like. You must sign up on the Sign Up Genius to attend and submit $15 payment (cash or Venmo) to Coach Andrew at the start of the clinic. Due to the size of our team, Stroke Clinics will be capped to ensure we have a safe and productive swimmer to coach ratio.

Do your coaches offer private swim lessons?

  • All of our coaches are offering private lessons this summer. To schedule private lessons, please connect directly with a coach at the end of practice or email [email protected] and we can provide their contact information to you. Private lessons are a set rate of $30/half hour lesson.

What is the Barracuda Spa Hour?

  • Reimagining a Barracuda tradition, the Spa Hour is a fun time for our coaches to pamper our swimmers. Swimmers are invited to relax in the clubhouse with soothing music while coaches paint nails, apply tattoos, and style hair. This event is free to attend and all are welcome!

What is the Barracuda Banquet?

  • At the end of the season our families come together for one last night of fun! A pasta buffet will be offered from 6-7pm, with the awards presentation starting at 7pm. Please RSVP in Swimtopia so we can ensure there will be enough food for everyone.

How are meets scored?

  • Meet scoring follows ASA guidelines and full information can be found on their website.

What does it mean if my swimmer was disqualified during their event?

  • Each meet employs stroke and turn judges to ensure swimmers are competing in a manner consistent with the rules. If your swimmer is disqualified, it means that they used an illegal stroke or technique or had a second false start.

What is the ASA Divisional Meet?

  • ASA hosts an optional championship meet at the end of the season at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. This meet is open to any interested swimmer—you DO NOT have to qualify. The only requirement to participate is that you pay the registration fee for your swimmer.

What is Swim Council?

  • Swim Council is a group of parent volunteers who coordinate the nitty-gritty work that make swim team possible.
